[Singled Out!]

BREAKING up is something most young people dread because with it comes an avalanche of emotions that are often heart-wrenching and mind-boggling. Donita Rose recently called it quits with her Chinese-Singaporean boyfriend, and like any other young lady, she's had bouts of loneliness and attacks of depression. The difference is, despite the hurt, she is taking charge of her life like she's never done before.

Reasons

"Oh, it definitely hurts-entering into a relationship and loving a person the best you can, but things just wouldn't work out," she sighs. Donita says that there were a number of reasons for the break-up.

"He still hasn't come to terms with the fact that I can't have total privacy because of the work I do. Whenever we get the chance to spend time together, there'll always be people interrupting, some asking for autographs, and other requesting for photo opportunities with me," she explains.

"Sayang, he's beginning to understand my work and he's not starstruck at all. But he simply cannot reconcile the fact that I'm some kind of public property."

But being boyfriend-less, as Donita puts it nonchalantly, gives her a chance to enjoy her independence. She admits to being free-spited, and she's learning to become more accepting of things and situations that cannot be changed. She also tells us that she learned many valuable lessons when she was with her ex-beau.

"He taught me not to be complacent and to always keep myself informed because my line of work requires me to always keep up with the present."

Selfless

On the love front, she understand that loving should always be unconditional and selfless, but it's not always easy. "Love is not just an emotion, it is more of a responsibility to make the other person happy, to bring out the best in yourself and your partner, and to grow together as individuals and as a couple." Donita now speaks like she's become a master of loving and letting go!

Donita says that young as she is, she's had three great loves, and one of them was Gary Estrada. After their romantic roller-coaster ride years ago, Donita is ready to face anything. "I'd like to think that I've grown up and matured a lot. I'm no longer looking for the ultimate Mr. Right, but only for the Mr. Right for me. That person will be ordained for me and he should be willing to 'marry' my family, too!

" Donita sees herself raising her own family not too long from now. "Like any girl, I'd like to settle down. I think I'd be happy having many kids. Four is a good number, maybe two boys and two girls, if God permits."

Anchor

God has become center of Donita's harried life. "He's my stronghold, my anchor, my all. It's not easy leading a hectic life and being far away from home and family and friends. I live alone in Singapore, and work like a dog. People just think it's all glamour but it's hard work for me," she says.

Aside from being MTV's "Most Wanted" VJ, Donita has accepted a role in a weekly comedy show titled "Money." "The show's on for only 30 minutes but rehearsals are scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday. That's how things work over there. Hindi katulad dito, taping na or shooting, saka pa lang nire-revise ang script mo."

She has learned to take her time and not to rush too much, especially with the many offers she is getting as a product endorser. "I try to choose the products I help sell. Definitely, cigars and alcohol are no-nos," she says. She recently signed another full-year contract with Globe Telecom.

Celebrities

Her work as MTV VJ has brought her to the far corners of the world and given her the chance to interview famous celebrities but she says that there's nothing like working here at home. Donita is looking forward to her next movie assignment, perhaps with Aga Muhlach as her leading man. Her last one with David Hasselhoff was an experience she will always cherish.
