[The Girl Next Door]

Not that you need to be reminded of this, but Donita has the kind of cool I'm-not-trying-too-hard beauty that guys obsess with both on-screen and off. Well that is if we're speaking the same Donita that I know. Here's a quick test: Are you a member of the generation X? Do you sleep with MTV and wake up with MTV? She's a dead-ringer for Audrey Hepburn, yes or no? If you answered yes to all the questions, then you know whom we're talking about. Yes, she's Donita Rose, our toast to MTV Asia.

On screen she exudes pure girl-next-door vibes, but have you seen her do those wacky antics while hosting the MTV Most Wanted? She's one crazy babe. Oh, don't get us wrong, that's our term of endearment. I mean come on, she's the girl of the hour, the "it" girl. So would you like to hear HERstory? As if you have a choice!

"My mother is Filipino -- she was a teacher -- while my father is an American working for the U.S. military. They met in Clark Air Base in the Philippines. Shortly after they got married, they moved back to America, to Utah where my father was stationed. I was born in the airforce base there. We stayed in Utah for about five years before moving back to the Philippines. So I grew up in the U.S. bases -- that's why I have an American accent. When my father retired, my mother decided we should stay on in the Philippines and I ended up living here for about 14 years."

Ever since she was a little girl, Donita has always loved entertaining her family and their friends. She knew that she has the potential to be a star. She has the determination and the gut feeling. So she started doing VTR's for commercials before she joined the then popular youth oriented variety show, "That's Entertainment" on GMA-7. Later she would appear on TV shows and in some box-office films like Alabang Girls, Markang Bungo and Birador. Her latest film was the international release Legacy with baywatch hunk David Hasselhoff. But it was not an overnight success for this young lady. She went through all the roller coaster ride of intrigues offered by show business. There were moments of depression too---you know the thought that nobody believes in her. Until she reached a certain point wherein she realized that she is not out in the open to impress every soul, she's out to have fun. The next best thing she did was building up her confidence, breaking down all those walls of insecurities. Before she knew it, she got the coolest job on earth. Being an MTV VJ opened a whole new world of experience for Donita. She became more independent and assertive. Living in Singapore all by her self enabled her to spend more time for her, meditating on the real meaning of her existence. She goes to the church every Sunday.

Donita is not really into music when she started on MTV---but she is an eccentric listener. Perhaps, her being open to different types of music helped her do a good job. In fact, she's making waves not only in Singapore but all over Asia.

Aside from MTV, Donita is regularly seen in Singapore's hit sitcom, "Money" wherein she plays a photographer with two love interests. Both of them are stockbrokers and best friends. But away from the set, Donita is a thrill-seeker. She has always wanted to try sky-diving and bungee-jumping. At the moment, she contents herself kick boxing at the gym, which she considers a good stress-reliever. She is also into scuba diving and uh, okay dancing. Ever since she was a little girl she loves dancing—entertaining people in general. She absorbs everything there is to know and widens her horizon by reading books and magazines about any imaginable topic. She is one net savvy individual too.
